Her last day on earth was grim it makes me entirely blue. No humor could be pulled out for this portrait unlike a few others I have in this series.
Title: Pill Popper Birth: 6/1/26 Death: 8/5/62 Details: Approx. 8x10, pic ripped from magazine, original photo by Bert Stern ('62). I then hand stitched the paper with thread and added vintage Whiting & Davis handbag metal scales to background. Bad Exit: Suicide or Accidental Suicide, her death certificate states "acute barbiturate poisoning" but I think it may have been an accident overdose. We'll never know.
Title: Seconal Doll Birth: 7/10/22 Death: 6/22/69 Details: approx. 8x10, this is a picture of Judy from her last concert held in Copenhagen in '69, photographer unknown. Photo was hand stitched, sgraffito on photo, paper and French knots used for Seconal pill; background tiles are vintage Whiting & Davis handbag metal scales. Bad Exit: Accidental Overdose or Suicide by Seconal also know as Reds or Dolls. Death certificate listed as: an incautious self-over dosage" of barbiturates.
Title: 27 Club Birth: 12/8/43 Death: 7/3/71 Details: printed image appropriated from the internet and shot by Joel Brodsky in '67. Image was lined with Sharpie then hand stitched with thread and embroidery floss. Letters cut out from my many piles of mags. Bad Exit: I'd say alcohol abuse but there were two causes listed: heart failure and one that stated natural causes. No autopsy was performed but he died in a bathtub and was throwing up blood prior to his death.
